The Experience

Escape momentarily from the busy city life, and see Hoi An through a different perspective as you explore the around the countryside on a bicycle and later, paddle along the De Vong river on a wooden sampan.

Your journey will be as authentic as it gets. Not only will you get to interact with local farmers and fishermen, and learn about their lives, but you will also get to do some farming and fishing yourself! Come experience the real beauty of Hoi An on this fun, adventurous and activity-filled tour!

Detailed itinerary

8:00 AM - 11:30 AM / 4:00 PM - 7:30 PM

You can opt for either the morning tour which begins at 08:00AM and ends at 11:30AM or the evening tour that lasts from 4:00PM - 7:30PM.

You will be picked up by our guides at your accommodation and taken to the green, clean and picturesque Tra Que vegetable village where most of the vegetables and herbs you find in dishes served throughout Hoi An are grown. Here you can get your farming skills on and pick your own veggies - which will later be used for lunch/dinner. Don’t be afraid to get your hands muddy!

You will then get on a bicycle and ride through this tranquil village, past rice paddies, gardens and ponds and watch as the local farmers cultivate, care for and harvest their produce. Not only that, but there will be lots of water buffaloes lounging about in the mud and if you’re feeling adventurous enough, you can even try ride one. The photo opportunities will be endless.

Next, you will get to paddle a sampan (wooden fishing boat) along De Vong river and here you’ll have the opportunity to get your fishing skills on as you join local fishermen to catch fish using traditional traps. These too will be used for your lunch/dinner. But before your meal, you will make one last stop at a Japanese graveyard and learn about the historical connection between Hoi An and Japan.

For lunch/dinner, you will get to sit down with a lovely local family and cook with them using the ingredients we collected throughout the tour, all the while chatting about what the rural life is like, learning about their lifestyles, traditions and etiquette. By 11:30AM/7:30PM, we will have you back to your accommodation safely. Not only will you have amazing memories and photographs to take back home, but your tummy will be satisfied too!

We did a half day village trip with these guys. It was amazing - we were picked up on time driven out to an organic farm where we started the trip. Basically we spent the day meandering through the country side on bikes, messed around on the river in a traditional boat and had an amazing lunch cooked for us by a local family. Binh who showed us around spoke perfect english and did a great job of answering all our questions. The OneTrip group work really had to make sure they put back more than they take out and they work really closely with the locals to make sure the experience is authentic. I'd do one of their trips again.

Tri and Bin took us around Hoi An starting with a trip to the market then heading to experience local living through rice and corn fields dotted with occasional rural worker and their trusted water buffalo. The motorcycle is a great way to explore the surrounding towns from Hoi An on the way to the temple ruins of My Son. Tri kept us entertained and went out of his way to help us. He explained that they don't want to be known just as tour guides but more like local friends. Tri and Bin took the attached photos of us.

The half-day bicycle Village Tour was the best experience of our two-week trip in Vietnam. Our tour guides TinTin and Tri made us feel like we were a big family, biking through the farm and rice paddies. At the farm, we picked morning glory, which we ate for lunch later in the day. We then biked around and met Luc, a friendly water buffalo. Riding the buffalo was an amazing experience. We made a quick pit stop at a local family home to have water and beers. We ended our tour riding a wooden boat and having a family style home made lunch in a little bamboo hut next to the water. This was the best food ever. It was delicious! While sitting around eating lunch, the group shared stories about our lives and traditions (the four in our group are from Puerto Rico). The experience was very authentic and we became a family. At the end of the tour we went to Christina's to relax for a bit. We absolutely loved having TinTin and Tri as our tour guides; they made us feel like family. We shared tons of laughs and pictures. They are really talented photographers and took great photos of our whole trip. We highly, highly recommend OneTrip, their Village Tour in Hoi An and TinTin and Tri as tour guides.
