The Experience

Experience a different side of Hoi An and discover the slow-paced life in the countryside. Our vintage Vespa will lead you off the beaten track to get a sense of the local lifestyle. Cruise through rural villages tucked between lush rice paddies; meet local families and see first-hand how they make a living from ancient crafts. The perfect day out if you're looking for a laid-back adventure!

Detailed itinerary

1:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Start your adventure at Cafe Zoom - a Vespa themed restaurant in Hoi An - and then zip off to a local fish market along the Thu Bon River where scores of fisherman make a living selling their catch of the day. Get a breath of fresh country air as we cruise through the rice paddies on the way to meet a local family and see how they produce rice crackers, a very popular Vietnamese snack. Take in the beautiful scenery as we head towards the quiet farmlands to relax in a tranquil setting and a freshly prepared local dish, surrounded by fields of seasonal vegetables.

With the golden glow of the late afternoon sun on your face, we'll once again take a lazy ride through the breathtaking rice paddies. A local family welcomes us and share their mat weaving craft with us. Our last stop on this culture-packed journey is at a traditional family home, where the ancient art of brewing the potent rice wine has been passed down through generations.

Our adventure comes to an end as we head over the Cam Kim Bridge back to Hoi An Ancient town, just in time for you to enjoy a sunset drink on the riverbank while you reflect on the day.

This trip is well worth doing for the insight into the village life. You need to be able to get your leg over a vesper and the roads are quite rugged in places so watch your back. We were picked up from our hotel and taken to the departure point in Hoi An. We were soon beeping our way out of the city and into the rice fields. Visited the home of a sleeping mat maker. Very poor people. The man had lost his leg at the end of the American war and had struggled to make a living ever since. Also another home where a lady made rice paper 12 hours a day for a pittance. Then to a house where the family makes rice wine and keeps pigs. The pig dropping’s are washed into an underground tank where the fermentation produces biogas which is used to heat the fermented rice to distil alcohol. The remaining rice mash is then fed to pigs. Nothing is wasted by these frugal people. To be able to see into these people’s homes is a humbling experience. Great to get into the fields where they were harvesting this time of year. Had a meal of traditional local rice noodles and eggplant cooked over the fire. Great experience. Genuinely friendly vesper drivers. Our tour leader Bean was informative and interesting. Courteous and considerate.

We did the island & countryside tour. Onion Phi was our tour guide. From start to finish it was really enjoyable. There were several stops, all of which were worthwhile. You get to see beautiful things that you otherwise never would. It was the best day we had in Hoi An. If you are in any way concerned about being on a scooter in the traffic don’t be, the route taken is extremely safe & quiet and the drivers garlic, bang & hy were very cautious.

This tour is described as “meet the people, taste the flavors, see the culture” and that’s exactly what this tour delivered. Within the first 10 mins of being on the back of the motorcycle i had a huge smile on my face because I knew we were in for something special. Totally recommend these guys. I only wish I had known about the 7 day tour they offer as well. I would have signed up for that if I had enough time left. Our tour guide Onion was a delight, funny, and excellent english and we all felt in safe hands with our skillful motorcycle drivers Hy, Tom & Bang. Thank you so much guys. This afternoon was way better than I ever imagined.
