Wake up bright and early for your 7:30 am pickup before we head out of the city on our epic adventure. We’ll follow the Cam Le river onto the open country roads before winding our way up mountains passes towards the ethnic hill tribe villages.
The historic Ho Chi Minh Trail takes us north into the mountains and more jungle-covered valleys, before enjoying a local lunch with the locals of an ethnic hill tribe village.
An after lunch dip underneath a local waterfall is just what you need before we head south to an even more impressive waterfall, Ba Hoang where legend has it the Cham Princess once escaped from Vietnam into Laos. Then it’s just a quick ride into Kham Duc, the small town where we will spend the night.
Kham Duc to Danang / Hoi An
Approx. 150km
Day two has a lot in store! The runway of a former US airbase leads us out of town and we’ll soon pass hydroelectric dams as we hit the open road. On the journey, we’ll frequently be driving through small rural villages, rice farms and rubber plantations as we follow the lesser known paths of the Ho Chi Minh trail, which lead us into the mountains behind the ancient My Son Temples. A visit to this UNESCO world heritage site in the jungle is optional but definitely recommended for culture and history buffs alike!
Following the coastal roads, we’ll pass through small fishing villages and might even stop off at the famous painted village of Tam Thanh before heading up the coast past Marble Mountain and the former US marine base at Nuoc Man. A well deserved, ice-cold beer is on the cards to end our trip.
