The Experience

Escape the hustle and bustle of Hanoi and enjoy a relaxing day with your private local tour guide in Ninh Binh, home to “Kong: Skull Island.” This area not only has breathtaking scenery with limestone mountains and sprawling rivers, but also rich with ancient history and local cuisines, making it a top day trip destination from Hanoi.

Detailed itinerary

We’ll start our adventure to Ninh Binh at 7:00 AM when we pick you up at your hotel by air conditioned car. Of course, a hearty breakfast comes first--a delicious Hanoian delicacy called “Bún Chả” made popular when celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain treated American President Barack Obama during his state visit to Vietnam. A bún chả with cà phê sữa đá is what we call the breakfast of champs and it's sure to make your two-hour drive to Ninh Binh a little more fun.

10:30 - 11:00 AM

Upon arrival in Ninh Binh, you’ll first visit Hoa Lu ancient Town. This picturesque little fort surrounded by mountains and rivers was once the capital of Vietnam in the 10th and 11th centuries, during the reign of the Đinh and the Lê dynasties. After a brief history lesson here and plenty of stunning photo opportunities, we’ll continue towards our next stop on the itinerary, the homestay in Tam Coc.

From here, we’ll grab a bicycle and ride around the villages and rice fields through peaceful countryside paths. We’ll stop by Linh Coc cave and explore as far as our flashlights allow us to, and then head out and explore a small temple.

12:00 - 12:30 PM

After working up an appetite from all that cycling, we will have a delicious family-style lunch with a host family who are kind enough to invite us to their home.

After our meal, it’s time to explore the famous and stunning Tam Coc grottoes. These caves formed inside the limestone monoliths can only be seen in one way, by boat. We’ll be boarding a traditional wooden sampan to cruise through these mountain caves and floating paddy fields. What makes this experience extra special is that the boat rower pedals the oars with her feet! This special technique is used to ease the pressure on her back and arms--it’s an extremely unique sight. The sounds of the oars hitting the water surface, the chirping birds all around and the stunning sceneries make the moment perfect.

6:00 - 6:30 PM

After a calm end to the tour, we will get ready to head back to the city and drive you to your hotel by private car.

Note: We’ve picked out the most local experiences for you, yet we’re open for all other requests in Ninh Binh.

Transport, guide, breakfast, drinks, entrance fee, and a delicious family-style Vietnamese local lunch are included.

Please note that there is a 30% cancellation fee for any cancellation made less than 24 hours prior to the tour date since we have to book many services in advance. Otherwise, there is a 5% transaction fee for bookings that are canceled 24 hours prior to the departure in order to cover for transaction processing costs.

Had a magnificent time on this trip with Kai!From the ancient capital visit, to the motorbike ride, to the temple / cave exploration, to the paddle-boat ride the views in Ninh Binh were incredibly memorable. The trails and stops Onetrip had planned were stellar; we were often among the only group there to take in the magnificent view. This was true also of the food. We had delicious bun cha in the morning and a huge feast for lunch at a local homestay. Neither were places any of us on the tour could have have found on our own. Kai was also incredibly supportive throughout the trip. He made sure other members of the trip had their dietary conditions met. I had a slip on the motorbike (my fault) and he made sure I was beyond alright. On the van ride home, he literally helped every single party of on the tour with different needs (finding a specific gift, booking a Ha Long Bay tour, food recommendations). His presence on the tour really made it stand out!As with before, Onetrip offered a phenomenal booking experience. They were clear and fast in their responses, letting me know that there initially were not enough people to run a group tour.Highly recommend this tour. Definitely one of the highlights of my time in Vietnam!

We booked the Ninh Binh adventure and it was one of the best organized tours we had. - pick-up on time- high quality food (breakfast and lunch)- good English knowledge - funny and friendly team - safe driver - small group We loved most that it was a bit off the tourist track. Highly recommend the tour and the team, especially Bin and „Kevin“.PS: waiting for the pictures ;)Cheers!

This was our 3rd tour with Onetrip, having previously gone with them when traveling to HCMC & Hoi An last year. I was, yet again, so incredibly impressed throughout our entire experience. Our tour guide, Kai, arrived a few minutes early and spoke excellent English. He was especially knowledgeable and accommodating. He made sure to go above and beyond to give us a positive experience. What I like most about Onetrip is that the company tries to really show you the Vietnamese culture, instead of just busy tourist traps. They show us how to better understand the culture, are open to answering all of our weird questions, and really just try to connect with us. It is a true experience of global citizenship. If you're interested in an off-the-beaten-path tour, with excellent food and wonderful people- I can't recommend Onetrip enough!
