The Experience

Escape the hustle and bustle of Hanoi and enjoy a relaxing day with your private local tour guide in Ninh Binh, home to “Kong: Skull Island.” This area not only has breathtaking scenery with limestone mountains and sprawling rivers, but also rich with ancient history and local cuisines, making it a top day trip destination from Hanoi.

Detailed itinerary

7:00 AM - 6:00 PM

We’ll start our adventure to Ninh Binh at 7:00 AM when we pick you up at your hotel by air conditioned car. Of course, a hearty breakfast comes first - a delicious Hanoian delicacy called “Bún Chả” made popular when celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain treated American President Barack Obama during his state visit to Vietnam. A bún chả with a cà phê sữa đá (ice coffee with condensed milk) is what we call the breakfast of champions and it’s sure to make your two-hour drive to Ninh Binh an adventure.

Upon arrival in Ninh Binh, you’ll first visit Hoa Lu ancient Town. This picturesque little fort surrounded by mountains and rivers was once the capital of Vietnam in the 10th and 11th centuries, during the reign of the Đinh and the Lê dynasties. After a history brief and plenty of stunning photo opportunities, we’ll continue towards the grottoes of Tam Coc.

These caves formed inside the limestone monoliths can only be seen by boat. We’ll be boarding a traditional wooden sampan to cruise through these mountain caves and floating paddy fields. What makes this experience extra special is that the boat rower pedals the oars (paddles) with her feet, a special technique used to ease the pressure on her upper body - it makes you want to try!

And then it gets even better! For lunch, we will enjoy a home-cooked meal with a local family. It will be a big traditional Vietnamese meal with a large spread of local dishes, so make sure you try everything.

After lunch we will cycle through the villages and rice fields that surround Tam Coc, enjoying the peaceful countryside. Once all those calories are pedaled off, we will head back to Hanoi, reaching your hotel around 6:00 PM.

Note: We’ve picked out the most local experiences for you while avoiding the tourist traps. However, we would be happy to accommodate if you have specific requests since Ninh Binh does have a lot to offer.

Transport, guide, breakfast, drinks, entrance fee, and a delicious family-style Vietnamese local lunch are included.

Please note that there is a 30% cancellation fee for any cancellation made less than 24 hours prior to the tour date since we have to book many services in advance. Otherwise, there is a 5% transaction fee for bookings that are canceled 24 hours prior to the departure in order to cover for transaction processing costs.

I was lucky enough to have found Onetrip and decided to take their Ninh Binh tour from Hanoi. We were greeted by our tour guide Kevin (Cuong) and had an amazing experience. Kevin provided us with choices to tailor our tour to our needs and made sure everything was to our liking.During our tour, Kevin made some great conversation with some history and culture lessons. He was very interesting and was extremely candid in his responses which we very much appreciated. Kevin will answer all your questions without sugar coating his answers so you actually feel like you are learning something instead of hearing a canned textbook response.Kevin was especially good at helping the two of us get great pictures. I think we walked away with the most pictures of us together from this one tour than our entire traveling careers put together. In addition to the amazing tour guide, tour itself was also great Everything was taken care of - from the food to the entrance fees - it was a very seamless experience. Onetrip creates a great itinerary to avoid crowds as much as possible and tries to support the locals on the way.Overall a great experience and highly recommended!!

We have had a great experience with OneTrip tours - we did 4 in total on our Vietnam trip! All the guides are very professional, knowledgeable and you will feel very well looked after. Our Student City Tour guides Marie and Long picked us up and took us around some of the iconic places in Hanoi and we chatted while sipping on egg coffee in a cafe. Marie was lovely, Long was funny and they both spoke English well. We forgot to bring any warm clothes (our bad!!!) so they took us to a market so we could find something. They even assisted us in finding an ATM nearby! I would definitely recommend this tour, especially on the first day of your trip.We went on the Ninh Binh adventure tour with our hilarious tour guide Kevin and it was spectacular. We were picked by car very early in the morning and taken to eat delicious Chicken Pho for breakfast and Vietnamese Coffee. We then made the drive over to Ninh Binh. Kevin was very informative about the history of Vietnam and kept us entertained on the trip. Ninh Binh was absolutely beautiful! We visited a temple and also climbed up the limestone to get photos of the amazing scenery. We then visited a homestay and had a tasty lunch, rode motorbikes around the village (so much fun), visited a cave and went on a boat along the river. It was a cold and rainy day but we were definitely glad we were able to experience Ninh Binh in the Winter as it is breathtaking.Overall, we have thoroughly enjoyed the OneTrip tours we went on and would definitely recommend them and hope to try out the other tours available on our next visit!

Thank you Kevin for a magical day exploring Ninh Binh! This trip has been the highlight of our entire Vietnam experience so far! Kevin was an amazing guide and shared his knowledge of the local culture, history and sights we saw and visited on this trip. The sights were all incredible and it is a very well planned out trip. Don’t think about it - just book it and ask for Kevin to be your guide!! Thanks again Kev - Zach and I had the best day ever!
