Detailed itinerary

Day 1

Danang / Hoi An to Thanh My
Approx. 200km

The adventure begins with a pickup from your accommodation at 7:30 am. We’ll follow the Cam Le river into the countryside and open roads dotted with colorful temples. Step back in time with a visit to Hill 55, which was an important strategic location during the war, and was also once the site of the Hill 55 Sniper Training School, run and manned by the US Marine Corps.
A visit to My Son Temples, a UNESCO world heritage site in the jungle, is optional but definitely recommended for culture and history buffs alike!

The historic Ho Chi Minh Trail takes us north into the mountains and more jungle-covered valleys, before enjoying a local lunch with the locals of an ethnic hill tribe village.
An after lunch dip underneath a local waterfall is just what you need before we head onto our final stretch of road for the day and towards Thanh My where a cold beer awaits us at the hotel.

Day 2

Thanh My to Lao Bao
Approx. 280km

Day two starts with the historic Ho Chi Minh Trail leading us north into the mountains and jungle-covered valleys, stopping for lunch at the A Shau Valley near the famous Hamburger Hill where a very prominent battle took place during the war, proudly rising from the Laos border.
After lunch, the winding mountain passes will lead us down and towards the coastal roads, passing by reservoirs, rivers and wooden stilt houses of local tribespeople.

Next, we’ll cross into the DMZ itself, following along the historic Route 9 into the mountain towards the Laos border with a photo stop at an abandoned tank. A short ride to Lao Bao takes us to a local market where you’ll see the trading of many ‘questionable’ items that frequently cross the border. Off to the hotel where a cold beer awaits us!

Day 3

Lao Bao to Hue
Approx. 240km

We’ll start the day with a bit of history when we visit the place where the longest battle in Vietnam took place. Khe Sanh combat base houses a small museum and original tanks, helicopters and planes can still be seen on the runway. Next, we’ll take Route 9, passing the remains of many previous US military bases, and then head into the mountains to cross the DMZ itself. From here you can see the famous Hien Luong bridge which divided the north and south during the war and is situated at the 17th Parallel marker (the provisional military demarcation line). Fuel up on a local lunch at Vinh Moc and visit the underground tunnel network where the entire village lived for 8 years during the war!
Back on the bikes, we’ll follow the coastal roads through small fishing villages and aqua-farming ponds before crossing the Tam Giang lagoon, where, surrounded by endless rice paddies, we’ll take the lesser traveled, quiet country roads towards our hotel in Hue city.

Day 4

Hue to Danang/HoiAn
Approx: 120km

Step back in time with a visit to the imperial citadel, once the home of the last emperors of Vietnam, it’s now a UNESCO world heritage site. Back on the bikes, you’ll soon be surrounded by endless rice paddies, and the lesser traveled, quiet country roads where you’ll see giant fishing nets across Tam Giang lagoon. A visit to a cemetery might sound odd, but the City of Ghosts, known as Vietnam’s most luxurious cemetery, is a sight to behold! A relaxed lunch on a nearby beach is just the thing needed to fuel up for the next exciting part of our journey: passing the pristine Lang Co bay and ascending the famous Hai Van Pass with its 21km of sweeping bends and breathtaking coastal views. After that adrenaline rush, it’s finally time to head back to base for a well deserved cold beer!

All meals, beverage (except alcohol) while on tour and overnight accommodation are included.
