Detailed itinerary

Day 1

Danang / Hoi An to Dak To (Phuong Lam Hotel)
Approx. 280km

The adventure begins with a pickup from your accommodation at 7:30 am. Following the coastal road, we’ll cruise past Marble Mountains and along the beautiful beaches of Hoi An before heading towards the mountains and slowly make our way through small villages and rice fields. Rice farms give way to dense jungle-covered landscapes with hidden waterfalls, and it’s time to stop for some lunch in a remote hill tribe village.

The next stretch of road is fairly new so we’ll mostly have it to ourselves which will allow us to appreciate the endless views of the untouched landscape as we climb up to 1800m. Passing through many ethnic minority villages, we’ll arrive at Dak To where we can take a great group photo with the army tanks in the square before taking our final ride or the day along an abandoned runway of the old US Airbase. At the hotel, a well deserved cold beer awaits!

Day 2

Dak To to Thanh My
Approx. 240km

The start of day two leads us on the road-less-traveled through small hill tribe villages as we head toward one of central Vietnam’s most beautiful valleys on a route known to only a few in this rural area. Surrounded by endless stretches of jungle, rice terraces, and remote villages, you might think you've traveled all the way north to Sapa!
During our lunch stop at a hill tribe village, you’ll be able to gain some local insight into how they make a living through the collection of a rare type of ginseng.
Leaving this magical valley behind, we get on to the famous Ho Chi Minh Trail passing by the famous Ba Hoang waterfall where legend has it the Cham Princess once escaped from Vietnam into Laos. We’ll end the day in the sleepy town of Than My, having a cold beer at our hotel!

Day 3

Thanh My to Lao Bao (Sepon Hotel)
Approx. 280km

The historic Ho Chi Minh Trail leading us north into the mountains and jungle-covered valleys, stopping for lunch at the A Shau Valley near the famous Hamburger Hill where a very prominent battle took place during the war, proudly rising from the Laos border.
After lunch, the winding mountain passes will lead us down and towards the coastal roads, passing by reservoirs, rivers and wooden stilt houses of local tribespeople.

Next, we’ll cross into the DMZ itself, following along the historic Route 9 into the mountain towards the Laos border with a photo stop at an abandoned tank. A short ride to Lao Bao takes us to a local market where you’ll see the trading of many ‘questionable’ items that frequently cross the border. Off to the hotel where a cold beer awaits us!

Day 4

Lao Bao to PhongNha
Approx. 250km

We’ll start the day with a bit of history when we visit the place where the longest battle in Vietnam took place. Khe Sanh combat base houses a small museum and original tanks, helicopters and planes can still be seen on the runway.
A definite bucket list item for all bikers is where we’re headed next, the Ho Chi Minh Trail, known as one of the best roads for motorcycle rides in Asia! Cruising through coffee plantations we’ll traverse an 1100-meter mountain pass through the untouched jungle and small villages where ethnic tribes still live in traditional wooden stilt houses.
At the foot of giant Karst mountains lies a small hill tribe village where we’ll enjoy a local lunch before heading into the mountains with incredible views before the final stretch of the day.
Entering Phong Nha National park, a UNESCO Heritage area of breathtaking natural beauty, we’ll slowly make our way along the historic Victory Road down towards the hotel.

Day 5

PhongNha to Hue (Romance Hotel)
Approx. 200km

Today we’re cruising the coastal roads, passing by remains of a church that was bombed during the war, we’ll head into Dong Hoi city. From here we’ll cruise next to the beach over small streams and through small fishing villages, and through black pepper fields and endless rows of rubber trees on.
Fuel up on a local lunch at Vinh Moc and visit the incredible underground tunnel network where the entire village lived for 8 years during the war! Back on the bikes, we’ll follow the coastal roads through small fishing villages and aqua-farming ponds before crossing the Tam Giang lagoon, where, surrounded by endless rice paddies, we’ll take the lesser-traveled, quiet country roads towards our hotel in Hue city.

Day 6

Hue to Danang / Hoi An
Approx. 120km

Step back in time with a visit to the imperial citadel, once the home of the last emperors of Vietnam, it’s now a UNESCO world heritage site. Back on the bikes, you’ll soon be surrounded by endless rice paddies, and the lesser traveled, quiet country roads where you’ll see giant fishing nets across Tam Giang lagoon. A visit to a cemetery might sound odd, but the City of Ghosts, known as Vietnam’s most luxurious cemetery, is a sight to behold! A relaxed lunch on a nearby beach is just the thing needed to fuel up for the next exciting part of our journey: passing the pristine Lang Co bay and ascending the famous Hai Van Pass with its 21km of sweeping bends and breathtaking coastal views. After that adrenaline rush, it’s finally time to head back to base for a well deserved cold beer to celebrate the end of an epic adventure!
