The Experience

Da Lat, known as the Sapa of the Central Highlands, has been a popular getaway since the early 20th century. This lively town in the mountainous highlands of Vietnam provides ideal weather, delicious food and beautiful scenery and last but not least, the best coffee that this country has to offer!

On this Onetrip city tour, you’ll get to experience exactly why visitors and locals alike keep falling in love with Da Lat. Hop on the back of your personal guide’s motorbike and take a ride through the slopey surroundings, stopping at various points to learn more about Vietnamese history, culture, and food. At the end of the day, you will not only leave with beautiful memories, but also a new friend!

Detailed itinerary

7:30 AM - 11:30 AM / 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

You can opt for either the morning tour which begins at 7:30 AM and ends right before lunch, or the afternoon tour that begins after lunch and ends in the evening at 5:00 PM. Whichever option you choose, your personal Onetrip student guide will pick you up at your accommodation and take you on a fun journey through the city. The back of a motorbike - this is how Vietnamese do it - is the perfect way to squeeze through lively alleyways and really enjoy the cool, fresh air up in this mountain town. Your guide has planned the perfect spots for you to really understand the essence of Da Lat, but is always able to be customizable this itinerary to your taste!

To start the trip, we drive all the way up to Robin Hill where you will be able to see the rest of Da Lat from a high vantage point, surrounded by tall pine trees, while our guides let you in on a little bit of history about the city. Make sure to snap a few photos as from here, Da Lat looks like a city made of colorful Lego blocks. It’s a wonderful way to start our tour, and will get you excited to explore the little nooks and crannies of the city.

The history lessons don’t end there. The next stop is Bao Dai King Palace that played a large role during the Nguyen Dynasty. While being a popular and at times a crowded attraction, we believe this place still is a must-visit. The flower garden is also a great place to stroll through.

Next up is a drive to Da Lat Railway Station, also known as the Crémaillère Railway Station, built during French colonial times. Since the Vietnam War, this train station has been mostly abandoned, however since the 90s a small track to a village nearby opened and a few trains run daily, mainly for tourist purposes. As you walk around and explore the artsy building structures, your guide will explain the history behind the station and what purpose it served back in time.

Ending our tour is a drive up another hill to Van Hanh Monastery. Up here, a 24-meter high Buddha statue, the biggest of its kind in Da Lat, looks over the city and blesses its residents. You’ll be ending your tour the same way you started - looking at the city you just explored but from a completely different angle. Take a moment to relax, enjoy the cool breeze and then we will slowly make our way down and drop you off at your accommodation.

Important notes

This is a donation-based tour that benefits the students directly. Guests will directly pay for all expenses during the tour. However…

  1. For the safety of our students, a non-refundable verification charge of USD1 will be required for each booking. All net proceeds from this charge will go towards training activities that prepare our students to be tour-ready.

  2. For those choosing the motorbike option, we recommend a minimum donation of USD5 to be given directly to the students at the end of the tour to cover motorbike expenses. It's not an obligation, but we’d hate to see any students incurring out-of-pocket expenses to provide you this awesome experience.

  3. If there is anything you wish to see that is not covered above, please notify your student guide (preferably in advance) and they will try to arrange your own custom itinerary.

We had two perfect tours! After the first tour through Dalat (City) we decided to book another one to the Countryside because we knew we would NEVER get a better one. We really enjoyed the tour with you guys! You re doing a great job. Thank you Vi, Hung and ThuyJulia & Simone

My partner and I took a half-day tour of Da Lat with Vi and Annie and had an amazing time! Both were so personable and kind -- we really enjoyed our discussions between stops, in addition to the sights themselves. Vi really impressed us with her knowledge of the King's Palace, the Buddhist temple, and the city generally. The tour really exceeded our expectations, and if we had had another day in Da Lat, we would have booked the waterfall tour for sure!
