Lotus house is just 2 minutes to the Citadel, 4km to Thien Mu Pagoda, 2km to Railway station, Truong Tien bridge and Pedestrian zone. Local food is very easy to find and try around my house. Try banana pancakes, breakfast waffles at Cafe 51 Le Huan - previous guests said it was best breakfast ever. And Salt coffee at 142 Dang Thai Than - some of guests said it was life changing!

If you don't want to stay in South bank of Perfume River where is crowded with tourists, hotels and bars, then my house with tranquil and convenient location will make you enjoy Hue in a peaceful way.

Guest access

You can use kitchen during your stay, reading or drinking in front yard or in the ancient well area.

Interaction with guests

We live not far away from Lotus House so it will be easy for us to come whenever you need.

The neighborhood

Our house is in a very nice location with very friendly people. You can see many food street sellers around Lotus house, it is very interesting to try, but please make sure that your stomach adapts to strange food.

Getting around

It is 2 minutes walking from Lotus house to main gate of Hue Imperial city. 15 minutes walking to Dong Ba market and taking 5 minutes more to get to Western food restaurants in Pham Ngu Lao str.,

It takes 15 minutes cycling from Lotus house to Thien Mu pagoda which was built in 1601.

Other things to note

Lotus house was built in 1930s with short and narrow doors which should be suitable for Vietnamese. We would love to get your attention!

Second thing is Lotus house sometimes suffers from high humidity in rainy season, it leads to sometimes the floor will be wet. However, just open the doors as often as possible, it is soon going dry.

Check In

Matthew's place is spacious and could easily accommodate 4-6 people with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. It is very close to the Imperial City with coffee and food choices nearby. I loved staying there.

Huge private house. Three separate private bedrooms. Three bathrooms. Separate kitchen (big for Vietnam, but odd layout for someone used to western kitchens). Small living room, so probably not great for entertaining indoors. Private courtyard. Covered motorbike parking. 50 meters from the Imperial City. Great value. Quiet at night. Checked every box. Would definitely stay again.

Matthew’s place is right next to the citadel, in the heart of a local neighborhood. Youll be staying in the house Matthew and his family lived in; it is kind of fun hearing the community wake up in the morning and imagining your life as a resident of Hue. Take Matthew’s recommendations for food in the area (especially Bo Bun Hue!) If you’re traveling alone, or in a group comfortable with motorbikes, I’d strongly recommend using the Grab app to get around. You can get to Tu Duc Tomb for about 32.000 VND and from there to Thien Mu Pagoda for about 38.000 VND. Per Matthew’s recommendation, I negotiated a boat from the pagoda back to the citadel - ended up at 150.000 VND for the lovely trip along the perfume river. Would recommend a night or two in this city full of Vietnamese most recent imperial history.
