Check In

This was my worst airbnb experience ever. To be clear, I have photo and text evidence of all and have escalated this to get airbnb involved the resolution center. Hosts tried to scam and extort me.

They scammed me by telling me that I could not stay in the advertised apartment because of covid 19 concerns, hustling me into another place in a different neighborhood last minute. i discovered later after digging around on airbnb that the host is part of a team of hosts advertising the same 2 apartments on at least 3 accounts with 1-2 ads per account for each apartment running simultaneously. So, they likely do rent out the 2 real apartments and get good reviews for them but ALSO funnel overbookings like me into disgusting, cheap, unrelated accommodations as a moneymaking scam.

When I say the place was disgustingly filthy, I mean it. There was a roll of wet toilet paper growing so much mildew i initially thought it was a melted candle. Old food bits inside the microwave had grown into mold. The stairwell was coated with cigarette butts and a thick layer of very old construction dust; it honestly looked like it had never been cleaned. Bags of old trash were sitting right outside the apartment door. I'm from NYC and worked as a real estate agent, I have seen evictions and hoarders and I have NEVER seen a building this disgusting. Again, I am not exaggerating or being retaliatory in any way, I have photos. The new place was also 4 flights up with extremely loud construction noise from the entire building next door, the apartment 2 floors down, and the building on the corner going until 11pm. Again, I recorded the noise on my phone and took photos.

They extorted me by promising me they would refund my money (I was reserved for 3 nights but only stayed there for half a day before leaving, I didn't sleep there at all) IF AND ONLY IF I immediately left them a 5 star review. This happened multiple times. She would meet me at Starbucks with cash right now AFTER I left a 5 star review. She would (Hidden by Airbnb) me right now AFTER I left a 5 star review. She would respond to my money request on Airbnb AFTER I left a 5 star review. Obviously I refused, and again I have text records of all this. If you're thinking this host has so many 5 star reviews and I'm the picky one, reconsider: how many of those reviews are people who were extorted and STILL may have never gotten their money back? How many of those reviews are totally fake, left by the ring of hosts working together, and additional fake accounts they've created?

This space was clean and in a very walkable location to everywhere we wanted to go to in Hanoi. Phuong was so helpful and responded immediately when we had questions. Phuong was terrific. Thank you!

Booking Phuong’s homestay was a great decision. The place was squeaky clean, beautifully designed, and had the cozy feeling of a home away from home. The vibrant yellow color of the bedroom creates a warm environment and the balcony view is wonderful. Furthermore, the bathroom was the cleanest i’ve experienced in southeast asia. Phuong was also very helpful in helping find directions to my destinations around the city. I would highly recommend staying at her place!
